| Falcons flying minus key piece
The Peterson brothers never longed for practice space. Not when they were living in New Jersey, when they had a big backyard to satisfy all of their soccer-playing whims, or when they moved to Florida, home to year-round soccer weather, roughly four years ago. The plan was Dale Peterson, a senior, and his younger brother Kevin, a sophomore, were going to spend their days on Saint Stephen's Turner Fields. That hasn't been the case this season thanks to a strained groin, which has limited Dale, a co-MVP from a year ago, to roughly two games. So Kevin has decided to fly the family banner, which he will do tonight when the Falcons head to Tampa Prep for the Class 2A-Region 3 championship game, scheduled for 7 p.m. "Last year, I was more defensive, and he was an (attacking midfielder), so I really didn't get to combine with him," said Kevin, a forward/midfielder this season.
Small mother, daughter team hit big intergenerational stage
Marilyn Small and her daughter Alison Baiocco have 'No time to get down,' cause they're moving up - to the main stage that is. Dressed in black, sporting white fedoras, ties and spats, the dancing duo from Stoney Creek will step to the sounds of K-Os' 'Crabbuckit' tomorrow night at the Dofasco Centre for the Arts in Hamilton, as the Burlington Footnotes Senior Performing Troupe Inc. celebrates the sixth anniversary of Making Spirits Bright with an intergenerational cast of professional and amateur community talent. "This variety show will delight audiences of all ages," says artistic director Rosemarie Maurice. Senior company members from Student Theatre, dancers from The Turning Pointe studio, along with special guest jazz vocalist Sarah Jerrom and her quartet, What's On? Tap! Youth Company and Cathy Duncan, assistant choreographer for the Canadian Tap Dance Team and her Downbeats Tap Crew are just a few of the talented performers making an appearance, joining the Burlington Footnotes, on the main stage.
Regional Peace and Pashto Literature Conference:
PESHAWAR: Speakers at a Regional Peace and Pashto Literature Conference on Sunday called upon the intelligence agencies to stop meddling in the affairs of Afghanistan to ensure peace and stability in the region. The World Pashto Congress organised, at the Peshawar Press Club, the conference that was attended by noted intellectuals, poets and politicians from nationalist political parties. The World Pashto Congress passed a resolution demanding that the government withdraw its proposed plan of fencing the Durand line. The plan will divide Pukhtoons living on both sides of the Durand line. In another resolution, the congress voiced concern over the sluggish response of the government towards the kidnapping of senior journalist Sohail Qalandar and sought his immediate safe recovery.
Health council seeks members
Davis County's Senior Services Advisory Board is looking for people interested in becoming members of the newly created Davis County Healthy Living Council. The council's purpose is to develop a coordinated strategy and a workable plan to put into action quality standards for nutrition and exercise programs in the county with an initial focus on senior programs. The Healthy Living Council will operate under the direction of the Senior Services Advisory Council. Lewis Garrett, health department director, said the first areas to be looked at by the council will be senior activity center meals, nutrition and exercise awareness in the home, and preparedness plans. "Increasing our focus on healthy living is critical to the citizens of Davis County.
