Laying Waste to Everything

And if anyone, like the Venezuelan Synod, still had any doubts as to what his “socialism" means, he recommended reading Karl Marx and Lenin.

Chávez defined the four engines that he will be driving forward: a) Socialist Constitutional Reform; b) education of the people to “rout the old values of capitalism and individualism"; c) the new geometry of power over the people's map to achieve a “symmetrical relationship throughout the nation's territory (goodbye to decentralization and the autonomy of regional and municipal governments); and d) “the revolutionary explosion of community power" (read another way of getting each and every citizen to toe the autocrat's line).

And lastly, he confirmed the closure of RCTV and any other communication medium that opposes him.

Lingle-Aiona administration focuses on economic development for ...

HONOLULU - Governor Linda Lingle and members of her Administration met with Leeward Coast residents this evening and outlined steps the State is taking to work with the community to build economic development opportunities and raise the standard of living for Leeward O'ahu, specifically along the Wai'anae Coast. The Governor hosted the meeting at the Wai'anae District Park to update residents on the Administration's homelessness solutions efforts. While progress has been made in developing transitional shelters and housing opportunities, the Governor told residents that the Administration is also focusing on what is needed to address long-standing problems that are major contributing factors to the homeless crises, specifically the area's disproportionately high poverty and unemployment rates, lack of workforce training, and minimal business diversification opportunities.

Study's reaction is mixed Care providers worry over state's budget options

MILLERSBURG -- A just-released study that found the state could save millions of dollars by paying more money to home health providers and less to nursing homes is drawing predictably mixed reactions.

"A nursing facility is going to say, 'Hey, we need this money, and home health cannot take care of these people like we can.' And there are cases where that is true. But if you walk into any nursing home, you will see people who just basically need assistance with medications, but maybe for whatever reason the family is not able to do that," said Leslee Mast, superintendent at the Holmes County Home.

Mast brings a unique perspective to the study by the Ohio Council for Home Care, a home health advocacy group. She's in the business of long-term care. But because the Holmes County Home is not state certified, her facility does not receive state funding.

'We don't want these homes'

CAMPAIGNERS in Tadworth are fighting plans to knock down five houses to make way for 49 sheltered apartments.

Residents fear a potential influx of 80 to 90 elderly people will change the balance of the community.

The developer, Churchill Retirement Living, based in Ringwood, Hampshire, plans to demolish five properties at numbers 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 Cross Road, Tadworth, to make way for the development.

But the Save Tadworth Action Group (STAG) has been set-up by residents and shopkeepers to stop the scheme.

One of their arguments, aired at their packed public meeting recently, is that there is a lack of affordable homes in Tadworth.
