Tunstall is heading up a 12 million European health and social care project aimed at supporting older people in their own homes.
The Service Orientated Programmable Smart Environments for Older Europeans (SOPRANO) project is part-EU funded and will develop affordable, smart IT-based assisted living services aimed at promoting independence for older people, improving quality of life and addressing the issue of an ageing population across Europe. The SOPRANO project will run for three and a half years and combines the expertise and knowledge of over 20 partners from six European countries, including university research institutes, public bodies and industry experts. The project will demonstrate how telecare technology, IT and mobile communications can be harnessed to develop new community-based models of care and support.

"Because I was the one who had to do the moving, cleaning, selling, closing, etc., I knew I had to play the heavy," he said. Eventually, his oldest sister fed up with her brother's pressuring walked out. Big sisters, little brothers, black sheep, dad's favorite all the old roles, battles and rivalries resurface when a parent's health is failing and decisions must be made.
Coalition to help local Hispanic community get basic services
Spanish-speaking immigrants now have another alternative when it comes to learning about the community and what services are available for their use.Sandra Anez Powell, the Hispanic outreach coordinator for Foothills Community Action Partnership and vice chairperson for Richmond's Human Rights Commission, has spearheaded the Hispanic Resource Coalition, created to provide easier access to immigrants looking for basic services offered in the community. "We will be able to provide services in a more efficient way because we're collaborating with other agencies that already offer these services," Powell said.The Hispanic Resource Coalition was founded Dec. 7, 2006, to provide better access to a broader range of services for Madison County's Hispanic community.The coalition has representatives from the Madison County Health Department, the Richmond Police Department, St.
Arms Registration Concluded In W. Nepal - UN
Arms registration and storage by United Nations monitors in the western part of Nepal has now been concluded, the world body's senior envoy to the Himalayan country confirmed today. Ian Martin, the Special Representative of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, made the announcement following a visit Friday to cantonment sites of the Maoist People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Kailali and Surkhet. He arrived at Kailali just as UN teams were registering and storing the arms of a final group of about 100 of the combatants based at the PLA seventh main cantonment site. He was joined on the ground by the senior UN arms monitor, General Jan Erik Wilhelmsen. Under the procedures established by agreement between the Government and Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M), the arms were catalogued and bar-coded by registration teams before being stored on racks inside cargo containers.
