Police Investigating Discovery Of Body Near Assisted Living Facility

Police are investigating why a resident from an assisted living center was found dead outside apparently from the frigid conditions.

Shirly Galvin's body was found outside of the Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Springfield Township.

Police say she wasn't dressed for the cold weather. They believe she walked outside, and minutes later the facility locked its doors.

The coroner is expected to announce a cause of death later today. Police don't believe foul play is involved.

The discovery is the second of the day after two students found the body of an older man in a wooded area near a Tri-State school. Click here to read that story.

Police say hospital doesn't release student information

At a party, when a drunken Lehigh student fell down the stairs and cut himself on the bottle he was carrying, the bleeding on his arm would not stop. After deciding the student needed to go to the hospital, a student living in the house, who spoke on terms of anonymity, put the injured student in the car and started driving.

But the driver did not take the injured student to St. Lukes Hospital, a closer and more accessible hospital, because he thought the student would be more likely to get in trouble.

Its been my experience since freshmen year that kids who are taken to St. Lukes for alcohol are automatically notified to Lehigh, he said, and then they go to ARD, and have to de-pledge and everything that goes along with that.

Instead, he drove the injured student to Lehigh Valley Hospital, a hospital that he said wouldnt get his friend in trouble.

Housing plan will allow seniors to 'age in place'

The sight of bulldozers clearing the way for housing in Hempfield is nothing new these days, but a plan north of Greensburg will offer something unique, the developers say.

"The northern section [of the township] is our growth area right now," Hempfield Manager Rob Ritson said. He said the area was likely to remain a hot spot for building over the next eight years or so with developments of more than 2,000 units on the drawing board.
